A few quick tips that will help a lot: - Forget the banks and open an account with a Credit Union, but make sure they cover international ATM fees.
- Carry one debit/credit card. Leave another one in a safe place with your passport. - Use the currency of the country you are in. - Relax! Enjoy your travels! OscArt

Though you should always carry some USD and traveler's checks with you in a hidden place, you'll need local currency as well. ATM's are convenient way to get this and offer competitive exchange rates that are typically better then any currency exchange stand. But be careful when and where you use your plastic, it can make you look wealthy and therefore a target. Make sure you know you're bank fees at ATM's, also keep in mind that credit cards typically charge a 1% to 3% foreign transaction fee. I would suggest citibank as they do not charge these fees, they still get them from the credit companies but don't pass them on to you.
