Fun with Buddha & Co.

Buddha Park (Xieng Khuan) is one quirky place just south-east of Vientiane. Hundreds of statues of Buddhist and Hindu figures, built by one priest from the finest ferro concrete Laos has to offer, spread out over a couple of acres in a lush setting. If this sounds a bit bizarre, it definitely is. Whether he did it for lulz or out of devotion, I can't tell. Maybe a bit of both?

A local bus takes about an hour to get there from the main bus station in Vientiane. Remember the number of the bus (14, I think) so you know who to flag down on the way back, as there's no marked bus stop at the park. Spending an hour at the park is probably enough. They have shops for souvenirs and drinks/food there.
