The Benque-Melchor border crossing is quick and easy as long as you bring enough cash to pay the exit fee, a whopping $18.50. The fee is the highest of all of the Central American countries. In Costa Rica, we were charged $14, but other countries in the region charge only $1-2. There are no ATMs on the Belizean side, so bring cash.
