Beautiful park, lonely beaches

The famous whale tail, what this park is known for, is a sandy peninsula leading to a rock and coral barrier that forms the shape of a whale tail, hence the name. There are tons of rocks here, and I found that the beaches, though beautiful, were not really swimmable. When it rains a lot, crocodiles have been known to come out of the riverbeds, so watch out for "swimming logs." If you stay in Uvita, you can have the park all to yourself in the morning. The park was just a few minutes' walk from our hostel.

Karaoke and cumbia at Delicious

It's the same crowd every night but still massively fun. This is a small town bar where everyone knows everyone else. Karaoke is encouraged--in fact, Matt's rendition of La Camisa Negra was a hit--and cumbia is a must. When Tikas from other parts of the country visit, it can get pretty rowdy. Anyway, there are only really two options for nighttime entertainment. You'll know which one is more your speed.

There's a Dirt Road

The main highway on the way to Uvita turns to a dirt road. It really freaks you out if you get there at night going 55.
