Arco Iris serves $4 pizza, enough to feed 2

Arco Iris is located on the main street across from Super Carnes, the biggest supermarket in Las Tablas. It's a small town, so you should be able to find it with no problems. We were pretty happy with our pizza, which came with a cheese-filled crust (yumm!). And at $4 for a medium-sized pizza big enough to feed two, the price was also dee-licious.

This hole in the wall on Avenida Moises Espino just one block from the main square serves up delicious pastelitos (corn cakes), empanadas, and meat for breakfast. We had 2 cups of coffee, 2 corn cakes, 1 empanada, and pork for $3.80. It's also right by the parada for buses heading to Chitre.

While we were waiting for our bus to Pedasi, we passed by Boquitas Caseras, a popular and fairly cheap restaurant on Avenida Belisario Porras, next door to Hotel Piamonte. They serve snacks and desserts. Loved the canastitas de ceviche! The apple and celery ceviche was quite delicious and only $0.35 each.

Santa Librada/Pollera Festivals

While the official festival dates are July 19-23, celebrations usually begin several days in advance and continue for several days after. If you are in Los Santos Province in late July, head over to Las Tablas to celebrate Santa Librada, the city's patron saint. During this time, the new pollera queen will also be crowned, a formal yet informal event where you can see the pollera, the national dress of Panama, and watch traditional dance performances and fireworks. Ask around for the official program of events.
