Spas and Hot Springs

The two most popular baths are at Gellert (4400 HF or 4600 HF on weekend) in the Hotel Gellert and Szechenyi (3800 HF or 3950 HF on weekends), but there are others in Budapest. For info on other baths and spas, go to:

Magic Bath
by Travis of about 8 years ago

The Lukacs Bath is Budapest is host to the Saturday night Magic Bath experience. Imagine the most rowdy pool party you ever attended in college/university with dancing, drinking, and DJ'ed music. Except it's at night. In the therapeutic mineral waters of Hungary. With an international crowd. And laser lights. And 16-ounce beers for less than $1. The tea place next door to the Wombats Hostel knows the details (Wombats itself didn't know the details) and will sell you a ticket cheaper than if you pay at the door. Taksi (cab) drivers won't even know, but stay persistent - if the website and flyers say it's on, then it's on. Wear a swimsuit and bring cash - the Forints are waxy and don't melt in the water. Go as a group and enjoy! (Photos and videos not posted - what happens at Magic Bath should stay there.)

Coffee Shop Goer's Fantasy

Coffee Shop Goer's Fantasy

Among Budapest's famous "ruin bars" is Szimpla, located in the 7th (or Jewish) District of Budapest (Pest side of the Danube). This warehouse of a bar is all of my favorite coffee shops in one! Tons of spaces to locate and relocate throughout the night. If it's too touristy for you, hop on over to Fogazhaz on Akacfa Street, another of many ruin bars in the area.

Sziget is a week-long music festival held every year in August on an island in the middle of the Danube River. This year's festival ends Sunday. You can get tickets at the train station (any of them) or at various tram ticket offices around town. You can also buy tickets at the event. Tickets this year are 45 euros or half off if you go after 11pm. For directions and program info, check out

Getting Around

Where to Get Your Transpo Ticket
by Hacked By ofırlamaadam about 8 years ago

There are certain designated areas where you can buy city transpo tickets (good on all public transpo), usually near a major tram or metro stop and at some newspaper stands. You can get single passes, 10 passes, 24-hr, or multi-day. Remember to validate your ticket!
