The best way to see everything in the Campania region
by Angusvos about 6 years ago

Naples is an incredibly vibrant city and one which often overwhelms first time visitors due to its sheer chaotic nature, which for the most part actually works. The best way to see everything and get wherever you need to be is through the Campania Artecard. For europeans under the age of 25 euros it is good value, affording you three days of public transportation throughout the entire region as well as access to all the major sights and museums, such as Pompeii, Herculaneum and the art galleries in Naples. It also includes a free guidebook to the region and advice on what to see and do. For those over 25 it gives free access to the first two sites you visit and 50% off on the rest (I recommend using the free visits for Pompeii and Herculaneum, the two most expensive sights). Using this card it is possible to explore the amalfi coast one day, Pompeii and Herculaneum the next and explor Naples and its sights on the final day, all for 25 euros. A must buy if you plan on spending 2-3 fays exploring this unique area.

Do NOT visit Naples...

Naples is a grubby, expensive trap for backpackers! In my experience, the food was terrible (ironic since pizza was invented there...), the streets were filthy, including the monuments, the people weren't friendly and in fact you're likely to be ripped off as I was. The surrounding areas, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast are lovely places to visit but try to stay somewhere other than Naples, perhaps Sorrento.
