A highly recommended side trip from Interlaken is to go see the Trummellbachfalle about 20km from Interlaken, the falls are actually 10 waterfalls inside of a cave and are an awesome sight to see. Short bike ride or hike from Lauterbrunnen and the trains from Interlaken Ost are every half hour. It costs some money but is worth the 11 CHF to go see, absolutely a spectacular sight to see.

Biking Lake Brienz in Interlaken

After spending all of our money rafting, diving, and canyoning, we were forced to explore cheaper options for spending the day in Interlaken. The bike ride around Lake Brienz was actually quite nice and relaxing. And if you time it perfectly, you shouldn't have any problem getting back for happy hour at Balmer's....

Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland a breath taking place...WOW

I stayed at the "Valley Hostel." I was greeted by a very friendly host. This was a great "base camp" but my German friend and I did go in "off season" or in October, so there was barely any people there. Beware the food store in Lauterbrunnen it closes quite early. It was at around 6pm when it did close. If it closes no worry you can always take the train into Interlaken. Their stores are open a bit latter.
This cable car you will take to the top of the valley is also the way to get to the schilthorn. This is a place that was featured in a James Bond film, but be prepared to pay a lot of this. Also keep an eye out for the 25+ waterfalls in the mountain.
