Historical and cultural sanctuary in the heart of Houston

The Ima Hogg house off Memorial Drive at Westcott is the former home of philanthropist Miss Ima Hogg, the only daughter of Texas Governor Jim Hogg. The house, built in the 1920s, is located along Buffalo Bayou and is gorgeous. Part of the home houses one of the nation's finest collections of Early American art, paintings and antiques. You can also visit the many gardens on the estate. The Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens are open year round and are maintained by the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. Check MFAH's calendar for events: http://www.mfah.org/visit/bayou-bend-collection-and-gardens/bayou-bend-visitor-info/.

Brazos Bend State Park

Houston's Swamps and Alligator Park

Houston's Swamps and Alligator Park

This is my favorite park in all of Houston! Brazos Bend is just 30 miles outside the city and is home to more than 250 alligators. The largest gators in the park are estimated to be 15-16 feet in length. Visitors are permitted to walk along various trails where the gators roam free. The last time we visited the park, we walked past (Matt actually used me as a buffer) a 14-foot-long alligator sunbathing on the banks. If you're up for an adventure walk, this is the place to go.

Where to get a pair of old Texas boots for cheap

The best conversation piece you can own is a nice pair of Texas boots. While in Houston, you can get a pair of high quality, custom-made boots for a fraction of the price at Texas Junk Co. on 215 Welch Street.
